Embrace the Ugly!

The ugly Christmas sweater that is.

Have you seen Lorna's newest quilt along?  If not, jump on over to her blog and check it out here.

She is hosting a quilt along celebrating the ugly Christmas sweater.  I just love it because my boys have totally embraced the ugly Christmas sweater trend.  they have multiple sweaters and wear them all December long.  Som they are going to get such a kick out of this quilt.

Since, I love scraps and keep every. tiny. piece, I have lots and lots of random Christmas scraps.  I have 3 bags full actually.

There are all sorts of styles and colors in there, which will help make every sweater unique.  This will be a true scrap quilt!

Sweater Block #1

Instead of doing the 9 patch, I decided to use one of the larger prints. Since it wasn't quite big enough, I added borders to it to blend in with the sweater, and I like it even better that way!

Sweater Block #2

Sweater Block #3

I would have really loved some more of those blue accents on the bottom of the sweater, but I just didn't have enough.  I tried a few other fabrics, but nothing seemed right, so I just extended the red fabric down and left it plain.

I can't wait for the rest of the blocks to be released.  This will be such a fun quilt and a great way to use up these random little bits.

Thank you Lorna!

Dog Gone Cute Quilt

I am so excited to share my Dog Gone Cute Quilt with you all today!

Thank you Lorna for sharing this fantastic pattern with us!  If you have not yet checked out this pattern, you are missing out.  Like all of her patterns, it is well written and easy to follow and piece.

I chose to do the large dog blocks so I could have a nice sized lap quilt for my youngest dog-lover.

I am so pleased with how it turned out.

I started by making blocks based on our own fur babies.  Here is Doctor's block:

I altered the pattern just a little to make the center stripe skinny just like Doctor's fur.

Can you see the tecture in the background fabric?  It is a denim linen.  The color and feel is amazing.

Next up was Captain's block:

Such a sweet baby.  I shortened the stripe on this one to match Captain's color.

Then we have a block to remember our sweet Nala, who passed away 2 summers ago.  We miss her so much.  My youngest was so excited to have her included.

I pulled the rest of my fabrics in "realistic dog colors" as requested by the youngest.

It was so much fun to play around with all of the different variations of the patterns.

And check out the quilting:

Can you see it?  Swirls with hidden dog bones.  How perfect is that!

I had so much fun with this pattern.  Check out what some of the other bloggers have been doing with Lorna's pattern.  Below are some of the other blogs sharing today.

I'll be sharing my whole project on October 29th, so make sure you stop back by to check it out.  Until then, here is a little sneak peak at the quilting.

Loops and bones, I almost can't stand the cuteness.

Black Gingham Love

I love gingham. Every color of gingham. It is so versatile and such a classic. And my latest obsession is black gingham. I have already included it in 4 projects and I just keep going back to it.

First, I made this cute little dish towel.

Then, I made this sweet little pillow using Lori Holt's pie cherry block pattern from her Farm Girl Vintage Book.

Then, I whipped up this cute little Fall wall hanging using another one of Lori's patterns, her patchwork pumpkin.

And then just last night that gingham made it into a block from Lorna's Dog Gone Cute Quilt Along. I just love him!

Do you have a favorite pattern/fabric that you always fall back to?

Don't forget to come back and check on my Dog Gone Cute Quilt during the blog hop on October 29th!

I'm linking up all of these sweet gingham finishes at Crazy Mom Quilts.
